“Not only is there no God, but try finding a plumber on Sunday.” – Woody Allen

Murphy’s law. It’s always bad timing when you need a plumber and you may not know one that you can trust, let alone reach on a Sunday!

Meet Elliot Dods, our trusted plumber and Marketing Manager with Pioneer Plumbing & Heating. We asked him 7 questions you want to ask a plumber to save you the time aka money!

Are you licenced, bonded & insured?

All our technicians at Pioneer are licensed, bonded & insured.  If someone is offering you a cheaper price to pay in cash because they are not, run the other way!

Do you guarantee your work?

Pioneer has a 1 year warranty on anything we install.

Who will actually be doing the job?

We have 25 technicians with different qualifications. We select best technician for your specific job.

Do I need a permit for the work you are doing?

Not all jobs require a permit but best to speak to us (and your strata if that applies) to confirm to then ensure if it does that the job will meet all the requirements. It is very important to get a permit then you know the job is up to code.

Do you clean up when the work is complete?

Customer service is very important to Pioneer and our technicians ensure to leave the job site spotless when we are finished. Costs may apply for disposal of certain materials e.g. drywall or toilets but we will advise of this up front.

What is the best way to work out pricing, hourly or by the job? Does that cover all costs?

Small jobs are usually quoted by the hour, often referred to as ‘time and materials’. Larger jobs of $1,000+ are usually quoted by the job. Either way this will be confirmed prior to work being done.

What are the top things to watch out for to avoid water leaks or pipe damage?

  • If your pipes make a loud knocking sound your water pressure is too high and this can cause leaks & damage. Great article about that here.
  • Buy yourself a Flood Buzz alarm and place it under the kitchen sink, under the dishwasher, behind the toilet or next to your hot water heater to detect any water leaks. Even the smallest amount of water can cause damage. Order them here.
  • Change the braided water supply lines every 4 years so they don’t leak. Great article about that here.
  • Get your drains snaked every 2 years to avoid costly backups.
